Men's and women's apparel maker Perry Ellis International Inc has named George Pita as its chief financial officer.

Pita, who has been with the company since April 2004, has been acting as interim CFO since Timothy Page resigned on 4 November.

Before that, Pita served as senior vice president of finance and controller of the company. He has also served as CFO of Sunglass Hut among other positions.

Chairman and chief executive officer George Feldenkreis said that Pita's knowledge of Perry Ellis and his "strength in operations" would allow the appointment to be a straightforward one.

He added: "He has been responsible for corporate accounting, budgeting and planning operations, as well as our retail business and some branded business."

Perry Ellis International's brands include Perry Ellis, Jantzen, Cubavera, Munsingwear, John Henry and Original Penguin as well as licensed trademarks from third parties including Nike and Tommy Hilfiger.
