As part of a company-wide strategic review carried out by Gerber Technology earlier this year, the US-based company has now signed a letter of intent with Eton Systems AB of Sweden to reinforce its unit production system (UPS) solutions.

The agreement between the two parties, which should be finalised over the next 60 days, will see Gerber incorporate Eton's UPS product range within its GerberSuite solutions portfolio, and extend its worldwide distribution network to Eton's sales organisation. Eton will assume aftermarket responsibilities for the GerberMover product line, which recently ceased production.

As a result of the alliance, Eton's product technology will become the UPS element within the GerberSuite product range. With Gerber's support, Eton will offer GerberMover spare parts, telephone assistance, and customer service for a period of two years. Going forward, existing GerberMover customers will be able to take advantage of Eton's extensive application knowledge and broad product range to address future UPS requirements.

"Eton is the premier supplier of unit production systems in the world," explained Marc Giles, president of Gerber Technology. "With this alliance, Eton Systems will become an integral part of GerberSuite and strengthen our position as a total solution provider to our customers."

Added Mikael Davidson, managing director of the Eton Systems Group: "Our companies can leverage a unique mix of technologies and know-how to deliver leading edge solutions for our customers. This alliance opens new possibilities to improve the way material and information is managed throughout our customers' production process."
