James Arthurs has been promoted to president of Gerber Technology and senior vice president of Gerber Scientific Inc, taking over from Marc Giles who was promoted to president and CEO of Gerber Scientific Inc last November.

In his new position, Arthurs will lead the company's marketing, product management, sales and R&D activities.

Arthurs joined Gerber in 1980 to establish a system of agents and distributors for the company's computer hardware and software systems. He also led its expansion into Australia, Mexico, Hong Kong and China.

"Arthurs is a highly respected veteran of the apparel and flexible materials industry," stated Marc Giles, "and was the chief architect of Gerber Technology's leading market share position in the developing world, which today represents a third of its total revenue."

The company has also named Bernard Demko as senior vice president and COO, Gerber Scientific Inc. Most recently, Demko was the chief operating officer of Gerber Technology.

In a separate announcement, Gerber Technology said it has appointed Sabrena McBride as director of software product management. Sabrena will be responsible for all Gerber software products including WebPDM, Artworks, AccuMark and CutWorks.

And to manage West Coast sales operations, Alan Seymour is the new deputy regional director. He will also continue to oversee sales operations in central and western Canada.
