Women's fashion maker Gerry Weber is predicting a 7 per cent slump in 2002/3 sales as the downturn in consumer spending takes hold.

The firm, which is Germany's fifth-largest textile manufacturer, said new orders for all its brands fell 8 per cent year-on-year and operating results (EBIT) are likely to be around 28 million euros ($28.27 million).

However, Gerry Weber is confident that 2003/2004 sales and earnings will be boosted by higher exports to Canada, Eastern Europe and the Far East.
