German fashion company Gerry Weber International has bucked the trend for weak consumer spending in Germany and Western Europe by reporting a 12% rise in fiscal 2005 sales to EUR395m from EUR352m in 2004.

The number of Houses Of Gerry Weber rose by 30 to 102 over the past 12 months. Thirty of the stores are managed by the company, while 72 are operated by franchisees.

Gerry Weber plans to increase the number of Houses by 65 in the new fiscal year. Its target is for 300-400 Houses of Gerry Weber, two-thirds of which would be located outside Germany.

The company has also increased the number of shop-in-shops, which rose by about 100 to 800 in 2005, and hopes to have 1,000 in the next fiscal year.
