Fashion giant Giorgio Armani is facing a £100,000 compensation bill after an industrial tribunal ruled against it in the case of a working mum who claims she was sexually discriminated against.

Media reports on Wednesday said 34-year-old Sarah Vince-Cain is likely to be awarded the huge pay-out after claiming she was demoted and then sacked after returning from maternity leave to the Collezione Armani store in Manchester.

The senior manager claims she was stripped of responsibility for other stores, made a scapegoat for poor sales at her branch and alleges company minutes were altered to make it look like she wanted less responsibility.

She won her claims of sex discrimination, victimisation and unfair dismissal at the tribunal in October, with a compensation hearing expected to be held early next year.
