Corporate uniform supplier G&K Services reported a 5.2% rise in revenue for its second quarter thanks to growth in both rental and direct sales.

Revenue totalled US$230.8m, the company said, compared to $219.3m the year before.

Quarterly earnings per share were $0.45 compared to $0.48 previously, as revenue strength and productivity enhancements were offset by higher initial merchandise costs and expenses associated with investments in sales, marketing and technology.

"We continue to put tremendous focus on improving the fundamentals of our business while executing our strategic initiatives," said Richard Marcantonio, G&K's chairman and CEO.

"The investments we're making will provide a superior value proposition for our customers and strengthen our foundation to drive long-term revenue and earnings growth for our shareholders."

The company expects fiscal 2007 third-quarter revenue to range from $232.0m to $235.0m and earnings per diluted share from $0.49 to $0.53.
