"Diamonds are now a man's best friend too," says luxury men's wear specialist Scabal. And to prove it, the company has introduced a suiting that incorporates diamond fragments. It is a natural follow-up, says Scabal, to the success of its Gold Treasure - a pinstripe quality in which the stripes are actual 22-carat gold thread.

The fabric, basically a mix of super 150s wool and silk, has diamond chips impregnated in the wool during spinning. It will be marketed under the name Diamond Chip.

With its distinctive lustre, the cloth is especially suited to evening wear. A single button, peaked lapel dinner jacket is one of the l9 ways of employing Diamond Chip, which is on show in Scabal 's redesigned and refurbished Savile Row showroom.

The aim is to offer an off the peg collection side by side with made-to-measure tailoring, with a four-week delivery service guaranteed.

The reopening also marks the official launch of the latest Scabal ready-to-wear range. This comprises super 100s and super l50s suits, plus camel hair and pure cashmere blazers in either fashion coloured windowpane checks or plain navy. Crombie-style overcoats and three-quarter length 'weekend' coats are also available, along with mainly Italian accessories, including cashmere and merino knitwear, shirts and silk ties. This season the ties also sport a glint of metallic thread to give added lustre.
