The Greek government is launching a two-year scheme aimed at boosting the textile, clothing and footwear sectors, according to Development Minister Dimitris Sioufas.

The €145 million programme is expected to be given the green light by the EU by the end of the week, Sioufas said.

The government hopes to improve export business, enhance quality of goods, modernise the organisational structure of the sectors, and give backing to investment proposals.

Sioufas also said the government will hold a 'fashion week' show, which will take place twice a year.

The Greek textile industry is bracing itself for a 7 per cent fall in textile exports by the end of this year.
