Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) plans to launch three training programmes in August 2001, with the aim of training a total of 300-500 professional textile designers in the coming 10 years, Taiwan's Commercial Times reported.

The ministry expects the trained designers to enjoy an international reputation. MOEA is to invest T$120m in the programmes annually.

It hopes to increase the global competitiveness of Taiwan's textile industry through the programmes.
