The Grenfell outerwear brand is to be launched in Europe as part of a new end-to-end supply chain project carried out with the Industry Forum.

The industry-led initiative, which is part funded by the DTI, has helped arrange feedback on the range from major international buyers, and will also be working with the brand owners to ensure that the supply chain is managed to best practice levels to support the orders.

For the past few years, Grenfell has been sold under licence mainly in Japan and Italy but the strategy for 2003 and beyond is to widen its appeal to European buyers.

“The overall aim of this Industry Forum project is to assist a small, specialist UK manufacturer develop the infrastructure to move from being a pure CMT house to operating a branded business,” says Ken Watson, director, Industry Forum.

Initial work has been carried out on product development for both the men’s and women’s coats and jackets collection for autumn 2003/4. For next season the range includes designs in wool from British mills and lightweight, treated cottons from Italy.
