Men's and ladies' apparel retailer Groupe Les Ailes de la Mode Inc has reported a third-quarter net sales decrease, mainly attributable to the sale or discontinuation of certain activities.

For the three-month period ended 30 October 2004, net sales from continuing operations fell 34.9 per cent to $21.3 million compared to $32.7m in the same period in 2003.

Comparable sales saw a 15.9 per cent decrease in the swimwear division and 32.8 per cent fall  in Les Ailes de la Mode stores, leading to a total decrease of 31.3 per cent.

Restricted inventory, a smaller sales area, and renovations being carried out all affected sales in the third quarter.

For the nine months ended 30 October 30 2004, net sales declined 34.5 per cent to $76.8m compared to sales of $117.2m in the comparable period in 2003.

Comparable sales decreased by 14.3 per cent for the swimwear division, and 22.6 per cent for Les Ailes de la Mode stores. The overall decline was 20.3 per cent.

The company has recently been reorganising under the leadership of new president and chief executive officer, David Margolis, who took the position in October of this year.

Groupe Les Ailes de la Mode Inc sells men's and ladies' clothing and related products in its two divisions, Les Ailes de la Mode, and Bikini Village.
