Indonesian exports of textiles and clothing to the US grew 13.9 per cent to USD1.15 billion on a year-on-year basis during the first five months of 2005, Asia Pulse reported.

According to a government official cited by the report, the figures contradict suggestions earlier this year that the country's textiles sector would falter after global quotas ended at the start of the year.

Ansari Bukhari, Director General for Metal, Machine and Textile Industries, said that exports grew in both volume and value terms, and that the sector has even more potential to grow now that China has been landed with US export restrictions.
