Off-price retailer Syms Corp recorded a first-half net loss of US$0.7m, identical to the figures for the same period last year, the company said.

A one-off gain of $548,000 in the second quarter helped the company to record a net loss for the three months to 30 August of $1.3m, a slight improvement on last year's figure of $1.4m.

Second quarter sales fell 3.8% to $59m, while for the half, an identical 3.8% decline left the company with revenues of $123.6m.

Same store sales were down 2.5% on the quarter, and 2.4% on the half.

Syms operates 32 stores in the northeastern and mid-Atlantic regions of the US, as well as the Midwest, Southeast and Southwest.
