Underwear and casual apparel maker Hanesbrands has appointed Joia M Johnson as its executive VP, general counsel and corporate secretary, effective 29 January.

Johnson joins Hanesbrands from RARE Hospitality International, a publicly traded restaurant franchise owner and operator based in Atlanta, where she was executive VP, general counsel and secretary.

She has more than 20 years of legal and business experience, including creation and development of corporate law departments and management oversight of real estate, construction, risk management and human resources.

"We are delighted to welcome Joia to our team," said Hanesbrands executive chairman Lee A Chaden. "Her expertise and experience are an excellent fit for Hanesbrands as a dynamic newly public company."

Hanesbrands, a spin-off firm from the Sara Lee business, is a marketer of innerwear, outerwear and hosiery apparel under consumer brands such as Hanes, Champion and Wonderbra.
