Upscale retailer Harvey Nichols on Thursday opened the doors to its new £20 million five-storey outlet in Scotland - its third full-scale UK store.

The new store is in Edinburgh's St Andrew Square with two floors devoted to women's fashion, with a wide variety of designer brands such as Prada, Chloe and Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche.

Its menswear range offers contemporary, formal and casual styles including Martin Margiela, Comme des Garcons, Christian Dior and Marc Jacobs.

The company already operates a flagship store in London and in Leeds and earlier this year reported a 20 per cent fall in full-year profits to £12.5m amid a tourism slump in the wake of September 11.
