Luxury goods group Hermes International SCA says its first-half net profit jumped 12 per cent, helped by increased advertising measures and less foreign exchange pressures.

First-half net profit totalled €109.1 million compared to €97.4m in the same period last year, with silk scarves and lines designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier reporting good demand.

The company recently decided to splash out more on advertising as an attempt to cash in on the current lucrative market for upmarket clothing and accessories.

Hermes expects sales to rise even faster during the second half of the year.
