Luxury silk scarves and leather goods specialist Hermes International SCA has proved resilient to the general downturn in this sector with a revenue slip of just 2.6 per cent in the third quarter.

On Wednesday it posted revenue of 300.5 million euros, from 308.4 million euros a year ago. Sales were 300.5 million euros, down from 308.4 million euros.

Nine-month revenues were 885.6 million euros, up 0.7 per cent from 879.3 million euros a year earlier. On a like-for-like basis, its silk goods generated revenues of 104.7 million euros, down 121.1 million euros on the year. Sales of leather goods were 15 per cent ahead at 276.3 million euros.

Japan remains be Hermes' biggest market, contributing 254.5 million euros over the nine-month period.
