Spanish high couture firm Elio Berhanyer has announced big expansion plans after selling an 80% stake to local textiles firm Artesanos Camiseros and investment concern Capital Riesgo Madrid, just-style learned on Friday.

Designer Elio Berhanyer, who now owns 20% of the firm, will begin promoting his women's high couture and new pret-a-porter lines in global fashion catwalks this Spring.

The firm also plans to step up its domestic presence and introduce a children's clothing line and home decoration arm through franchisors, the spokeswoman added.

Elio Berhanyer has traditionally sold his clothes through Spanish catwalks and other commercial initiatives.

So far, the firm has no plans to open standalone stores.
