Fashion retailer H&M is making up for a disappointing November with a double-digit sales surge so far in December, the company said.

November sales edged up just 1%, equating to a 9% fall in like-for-like sales, H&M said - its worst set of monthly results since August.

But it added that sales in December had enjoyed a "satisfactory" start, moving up 11% in the first two weeks of the month.

H&M operated 1,988 stores around the world at 30 November, up from 1,738 at the same time last year.

The company will announce its full December sales results on 28 January.
