Garment manufacturer and fashion retailer Hytex Integrated Bhd has confirmed it plans to set up an integrated garment manufacturing plant in China.

The company, which hopes to RM27 million from its forthcoming initial public offering, said the factory is likely to be built in Shanghai with operations due to begin in 2004.

Hytex, whose customers include Nike, Disney, Warner Bros, Fila, Puma, Asics and Hudson's Bay, said the plant will focus on original brand manufacturing operations before catering for the Chinese market.

Executive chairman Soo Kim Sin said the plant will allow Hytex to cash in on its increased competitiveness when clothing and textile quotas are scrapped in 2005.
