Despite its recent and high profile disagreement with Nike over what was described as "flawed inventory software", supply chain and marketplace solutions provider i2 Technologies Inc (Nasdaq: ITWO) continues to roll out new solutions. The most recent of which has been the completion of four implementations of the i2 supply chain management system throughout VF Corporation.

VF selected i2 TradeMatrix Supply Chain Planner (SCP) as the foundation for a company-wide upgrade of its production planning systems. The project is part of VF's "consumerisation" initiative, designed to improve consumer and customer responsiveness, speed-to-market, and manufacturing efficiencies.

To date, i2 and VF have completed SCP implementations in three VF coalitions accounting for approximately 80 per cent of VF sales volume. VF has gone 'live' with SCP implementations in its domestic Jeanswear and Imagewear East groups. VF Jeanswear's SCP implementation is one of the largest, most detailed and complex supply chain planning modules ever undertaken by i2 in the softgoods industry.

Sunrise Technologies of Winston-Salem, NC, provided project management expertise while i2 supplied technical support for the implementation. By monitoring key metrics and continually adjusting its planning inputs, Greensboro, NC-based VF Jeanswear anticipates seeing improvements over the next year in such areas as service levels, capacity utilisation, and material and finished goods inventories.

The Imagewear East (formerly known as VF Knitwear) implementation is the second business release for the Martinsville, Va-based division of VF. According to VF executives, enhancements to the system have improved the quality of the planning process and the speed of the end-to-end run time of the planning programs.

VF has also implemented SCP at its Imagewear West (formerly VF Workwear) division in Nashville, Tenn. and within its Vanity Fair Intimates division based in Alpharetta, Ga.

"We understood that an effective supply chain planning system was essential to our ability to keep abreast of fast-changing market demands," said Terry Lay, vice president global processes, VF Corporation. "i2 has proven to be an effective partner in providing the necessary infrastructure. We needed a software solution that could handle a very high volume of transactions, large planning model sizes and a substantial number of SKUs. i2 has worked diligently to address these challenges and deliver a leading-edge solution for VF."
