Import reductions in the US, Japan and other advanced countries have been blamed for first-half textile exports which are down 11.2 per cent.

The Korea Federation of Textile Industries says major items such as chemical fibres are among those hardest hit.

Relentless unit price cuts caused by rising competition among domestic makers and foreign rivals have also been blamed for the decrease.

The export setback includes minus 11.9 per cent for raw textiles, minus 13.8 per cent for yarn, minus 9.2 per cent for fabrics and minus 13.9 per cent for textile products.
