The EU is to impose a 58.9% anti-dumping tariff on Chinese chamois leather imports after their share of the European market jumped to 30% from 10% five years ago.

A report published in the EU's official journal said the price of China's chamois leather products is 29% cheaper than similar products made in Europe.

The measures, which have been introduced to protect EU manufacturers, replace existing provisional duties and are due to run for five years.

The duties apply to chamois leather and combination chamois leather, whether or not it has been cut to shape.

Chamois leather is most often used as a car cleaner but is also a component of cycling shorts.
