Spanish retail group Inditex has reported that its net inome rose 19% during the first quarter, helped by increased sales and store openings.

The company's profit reached EUR200m (US$265.5m), while net sales rose 19% to EUR2.3bn

Inditex, which operates the Zara, Berksha and Massimo Dutti chains, opened the equivalent of more than one store per day during the period. In total, it opened 114 stores and had 3,245 stores by the end of the quarter.

Gross margin at the company reached EUR1,150m, 20% higher than the same period a year earlier.
