Spanish retail group Inditex has announced the opening of a flagship Australian store in Sydney.

Its store will open on the pedestrian Pitt Street, in Sydney’s financial district, and consists of more than 1,400 square metres of retail space. It will sell fashion ranges for women, men and children, saying collections were tailored to suit the country's "climatic conditions".

Following the debut of the Sydney store, there are plans to launch a second Zara store on Melbourne’s Burke Street within weeks, Inditex added.

Zara’s launch in Australia means that the retailer now has stores in 78 countries on five continents, making up more than 1,700 Zara stores worldwide.
