Polyester major Indo Rama Synthetics (India) has outsourced its information technology (IT) activities to consultancy firm Accenture India in a seven-year tiw-up that is expected to enhance IT coverage especially in manufacturing area.

Under the agreement, Accenture will take on all existing 26 employees at Indo Rama's six IT locations and re-train them. Improving these skills is calculated to bring benefits such as enhanced management efficiency of the supply chain, cost reduction due to process re-engineering and an improved interface with customers and suppliers.

Mr OP Lohia, Indo Rama's managing director of the polyester major said: "In the first year of the contract, we expect an increase of 1 per cent in profitability." The company has a 20 per cent share of the polyester market and reported a turnover of Rs1,986 crore in 2000-2001.

He said the company has been investing about Rs4 crore in IT-related activities every year.
