Thailand's Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited, one of the world's leading producers of polyester yarns and fibres, is to expand its polyethylene terephthalate production capacity in Europe to meet growing demand.

Capacity will be raised by 220,000 tons a year by 2013 and will lift the company’s total PET polymer capacity in Europe to 1.3m tons annually. Indorama Ventures has five operating units in Europe.

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) which is used to make resins or films, but can be recycled for other applications such as polyester fibres.

The Thai company has been shoring up its operations recently after buying Korea-based SK Chemicals’ polyester assets in Poland and Indonesia; and Invista's polyester resins and polyester staple units in the US and Mexico for US$420m.
