The first-ever New York Denim Days festival is shaping up next week to connect denim insiders, designers, brands, buyers and consumers – with a range of events putting a spotlight on the global denim scene from a completely New York perspective.

There will be seminars, sales, workshops, installations, demonstrations, a vintage market, food, music and art, all aimed at uniting the denim community, organisers say.

Two shopping days will take place at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea on 30 September and 1 October, as well as a one-day street festival on 1 October on West 18th Street (between 6th Ave and 7th Ave). Events are also being planned at retail stores throughout the city.

In addition, there will be a half-day of denim lectures on 29 September featuring speakers including Adriano Goldschmied; Stefano Rosso, CEO of Diesel USA; Scott Morrison CEO and founder of 3x1, Paper Denim Cloth and Earnest Sewn; Stefan Siegel of Not Just a Label; and Sanjeev Bahl, president of Saitex, the benchmark garment factory and laundry of the future.

Hosted at the Fashion Institute of Technology's Katie Murphy Amphitheatre, the invite-only discussion will give FIT students, students of the denim industry and press unprecedented access to denim icons and insiders.

Hudson, Brooklyn Denim Co, Jean Shop and 3x1, the Manhattan-based jean stores, have signed on as New York Denim Days' exhibitors. Jean shop will be displaying rare vintage jeans, selling product and a leather bracelet that shoppers can also customise with dye and hand-stamps. They will also be indigo dyeing bandanas to add to this great DIY experience.

"I can't think of a more beloved, democratic product in the world than a pair of blue jeans...and what better way to celebrate all things denim, than here in the greatest city in the world, New York, our hometown," says Scott Morrison of 3x1. "Denim Days is a chance for everyone to come together and celebrate, enjoy, and appreciate jeans and jeans-making in all its glory."

Eric Goldstein of Jean Shop adds: "With the changing landscape of the retail industry worldwide, Denim Days is a great way for brands and services to present a special experience directly to the consumer," adds Eric Goldstein of Jean Shop.

New York Denim Days has been initiated by House of Denim and organised by Modefabriek in collaboration with Kingpins Show, an invitation-only, boutique denim sourcing show that takes place biannually in New York and Amsterdam.
