Intertek has been approved to test for formaldehyde and Azo dyes in Vietnam

Testing and inspection specialist Intertek has become the first foreign third-party laboratory to be approved by Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) to test for formaldehyde and Azo dyes in apparel.

Equipped with GC-MS and UV-VIS testing equipment, both Intertek textile laboratories in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi are now able to identify formaldehyde and Azo dye content in textile products such as apparel.

Both chemicals can have harmful effects on people as well as on the environment.

"In the past few years, Intertek Softlines has been facilitating the rapid development in the apparel and footwear manufacturing industry in Vietnam, assuring the quality and safety of Vietnam exports," says Thanh Nguyen, country managing director Intertek Vietnam. "We are constantly looking for new opportunities in supporting our customers in assurance, testing, inspection and certification."

Accredited to conduct physical and chemical testing for AATCC, BSI, GB and ISO standards, Intertek in Vietnam offers a wide range of services for apparel, footwear, fashion accessories and leathergoods. It offers regular (three working days) and same-day service (5 hours) when testing for formaldehyde and Azo dyes.

Recently, Intertek partnered with the Business Environmental Performance Initiative (BEPI) to launch a new set of chemical management tools designed to help textile factories become more sustainable.
