A Singapore-based inventor has created a boot that is said to protect wearers from the full impact of landmines, the Herald and Weekly Times reported.

The Blast and Fragment Resistant boot will go into mass production in Singapore by the end of August and will be used by the military.

The boot, which is said to weigh less than most combat footwear, has 13 shock absorbing layers of aluminium and steel to limit the skeletal and soft tissue damage caused by a land-mine blast. It could even prevent amputation, Mr Vaz said.
