US fibre producer Invista has once again taken inspiration from the athleisure trend, unveiling a new platform for athleisure apparel, which it says is a "one-stop shop" for intimate apparel retailers.

Lycra Moves Athleisure combines a number of Invista technologies which deliver a range of performance benefits including moisture management, comfort, and fit:

  • Offering moisture management to keep the wearer cool, dry and comfortable all day long, Lycra Cooling provides shaping benefits
  • Providing deep, rich colours, Lycra Black virtually eliminates grin-through in dark stretch fabrics
  • Lycra W technology offers deeper, rich coloration, "outstanding" whiteness, uniformity, and a more superior recovery power
  • Delivering increased flexibility for fitting in-between sizes and comfortable compression, Lycra Soft Comfort is designed for garments requiring flexible fit such as sports bras
  • Lycra Sport is engineered to deliver "exceptional" comfort, fit, and support to activewear fabrics
  • Lycra T400 technology combines durable stretch and recovery with moisture management benefits

According to Invista, the platform will allow mills and brands in the intimate apparel segment to enter this growing market and expand their business. And it's a business which has grown 42% over the last seven years with analysts at Morgan Stanley predicting the US$270bn sports apparel and footwear segment will grow another 30% by 2020. Meanwhile, according to The NPD Group, Inc the sports bra market has grown from $0.8bn to $1.5bn in sales over the last five years, with the strongest growth occurring in the last two years.

"The Lycra brand is a business connector in the apparel industry, and we offer the most robust insights, solutions, and contacts in the market," says Pattie Ficorilli, senior marketing manager at Intimates. "We have the skills and knowledge to provide buyers and brands with the solutions they need to capture their share of the expansive athleisure market."

The new platform was unveiled at Interfiliere New York this week alongside Invista's capsule collection.

Last month the fibre producer launched Lycra Sport, which is included in the platform, and works across the broad spectrum of fabrics and can be combined with other Lycra brand technologies, including Lycra Black, to offer additional performance benefits.
