Invista's Cordura brand has collaborated with Italian fabric producer Marlane for the development of a performance wool fabric it says offers enhanced abrasion resistance and longevity.

Cordura has developed a high-end fabric range in collaboration with Marlane using its Combat Wool, produced using a durable wool blend technology, and designed for garments that want to merge fashion and function. The Officina Endurance fabric range will launch this autumn for the men's contemporary suiting market.

Marlane, a division of Biella Manifatture Tessili, combines traditional wool textiles with innovative research and technology to offer "leisure-chic" fabrics for the workplace.

"Marlane is a prestigious addition to our family of Cordura brand authorised mills," says Cindy McNaull, global Cordura brand and marketing director. "Based on their highly innovative approach to cutting-edge suiting fabrics, we are excited about the opportunities this collaboration will bring in the emerging world of performance wool."

Patrick Lonn Wennberg, Marlane sales and marketing director, says the company's mill has a "young, contemporary target market", and it believes Cordura brand's innovative characteristics and performance are appealing to the group.

"Our Officina Endurance collection of Cordura Combat Wool fabrics offer a sophisticated yet traditional look and feel, with a technical edge that is an exciting option for designers developing stylish apparel for young urbanites."
