The Centro Tessile Cotoniero e Abbigliamento (Centrocot), an Italian body providing specialised services to the textile and garment trade, last week inaugurated a quality control laboratory in China.

The Shanghai Centrocot Textile Technology Consulting Service has been set up in the face of growing competition from China. It will carry out tests for counterfeiting and non-respect of manufacturing standards on raw materials and finished products in Chinese textile and clothing production centres. It will also grant accreditation relating to products and production systems.

The laboratory project has received financial support from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Varese, an Italian city located 30 miles north-west of Milan. More than 2,000 companies use Centrocot's testing, research and experimentation services, mainly small and medium-sized firms located in northern and central Italy.
