Men’s and women’s clothing and footwear chain, J Crew Group Inc, on Friday announced flat second quarter sales of $167.6 million and an 11.4 per cent slide in same-store sales.

The New York-based operator of 146 outlets said its net loss in the quarter was $7.1m compared to a net loss of $8.6m in 2001. Last year’s figure includes a pre-tax charge of $2.2m for severance costs.

For the first half, net sales were flat at $334.7m with same-store sales down 12.2 per cent. Net loss was $19.2m versus $17.9m with this year’s first half results were negatively impacted by $4.8m of severance costs compared to $2.2m in 2001.
