Bon-Ton Stores executive vice president, stores, James Zamberlan is to retire at the end of the fiscal year on 29 February 2008, the company has announced.

Zamberlan will be replaced at the US retailer by Barbara Schrantz, who will take over as executive vice president, stores and visual, leaving her current role as senior vice president, merchandise planning and internet marketing.

Bud Bergren, president and CEO of Bon-Ton Stores, thanked Zamberlan for his "years of dedicated service", adding: "His knowledge, business perspective and management style contributed significantly to the success of our company."

Schrantz will report to Steve Byers, vice chairman, stores, operations, private brand and planning and allocation, in her new role.

"Barbara has been a member of our senior management team since she joined Bon-Ton in 2005 and brings over 25 years of retail experience to this position," said Bergren.

"Specifically, she has been on the merchandising side and, most recently, was responsible for merchandise planning and internet marketing initiatives, all of which play extremely important roles in our goal of delivering improved profitability."
