Vietnam's garment and textile exports were up 30 per cent to $2.17 billion in the first ten months of this year - ranking second among the country's major exports after crude oil.

According to the General Statistics Office (GSO) domestic projects capitalised at VND1,780 billion ($117 million) were licensed in the January-October period. The bulk of this investment went on upgrading and building garment and textile production bases.

The Vietnam Garment and Textile Association believes the industry is on track to meet this year's export target of $2.5 billion, but cautions that local producers should aim to improve the quality, design and competitiveness of Vietnamese products.
