Bulgaria's textile and garment exports fell by 2.0% in the first nine months of 2005 according to the latest figures, suggesting that the industry is managing to compete against cheap Chinese imports in its main markets.

The Bulgarian Association of Apparel and Textile Producers and Exporters (BAATPE) data shows Bulgarian garment and textile exports were worth BGN2.46bn (US$1.48bn) in the first nine months of 2005 compared with the same period in 2004.

Greece, Italy, Germany and France are the major export destinations for Bulgarian apparel and textile products.
