US apparel retailer J.Crew Group has bolstered its senior management team with four new appointments, including the newly created role of senior vice president sustainability.

The group says the executives will be integral in its approach to building a digital-first, purpose-driven organisation under its J.Crew, Madewell, and J.Crew Factory brands.

As senior vice president sustainability, Liz Hershfield leads sustainability innovation for all three brands with a focus on driving a company-wide sustainability agenda that will maximise positive impact and position the J.Crew Group as a leader in sustainable retail. She will continue to oversee sourcing for Madewell and brings more than 25 years of experience and knowledge of sourcing and sustainability to the position.

The group has also named Danielle Schmelkin as chief information officer. She will lead J.Crew's digital transformation by maximising data insights, increasing connectedness and interactivity with customers, driving innovation, and fortifying IT architecture. She most recently served as chief information officer of Madewell.

In addition, Jose Davila has been appointed chief people officer and Derek Yarbrough as chief marketing officer.

Hershfield, Schmelkin, Davila, and Yarbrough join COO Michael Nicholson and CFO Vincent Zanna on the senior management team which is led by CEO Libby Wadle.

"I believe strong and relevant brands are customer-centric, community-minded, purpose-driven and powered through innovation, technology and a deeply collaborative culture," says Wadle. "Jose, Danielle, Derek, and Liz are proven leaders in their respective fields, share our core values, and bring significant expertise as well as a passion for our brands that will drive our business forward."

Wadle was named CEO in November of last year.

Liquidators were appointed to J.Crew's UK business in September, resulting in the closure of all stores in the country. Meanwhile, the group emerged from Chapter 11 earlier the same month after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May.
