UK retailer JD Sports Fashion is continuing to bolster its outdoor division after acquiring a majority stake in ActivInstinct, the online retailer of technical sporting and outdoor wear.

Under the agreement, JD Sports has acquired both the company's Activinstinct and Millet Sports websites. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

JD Sports said it will work with ActivInstinct's existing management team to increase its presence in its core UK market and continue its expansion overseas.

ActivInstinct, which sells premium, technical sporting and outdoor footwear, apparel and equipment online, has annual sales of GBP24m (US$38.7m).

CEO Michael Thornhill and managing director, Simon Millet, said: "After several years of rapid growth, we are pleased to be partnering with JD for the next phase of our development."

JD Sports last week acquired a controlling stake in outdoor clothing and equipment retailer Tiso Group, which operates ten stores across Scotland.
