Three GMB (Britain's General Union) officials protesting against pay rates at JJB Sports were injured by a truck yesterday (9 November).

Picketers said a truck delivering Adidas sportswear at a Wigan warehouse slammed into a GMB trailer outside it.

GMB says it will press for criminal charges against the driver after the incident.

Hundreds of irate staff attended the protest, which called for a higher rate of basic pay plus access to a bonus scheme.

Their calls recently led JJB's founder and ex-chairman David Whelan to brand his workers "communists" before reportedly jetting off on a three-week holiday to Barbados and stopping pay talks in their tracks.
