The UK's largest independent sports goods retailer, JJB Sports, is to have a new chief executive in the New Year.
Current chief executive, David Whelan, is stepping down from the position and handing over the reins to Duncan Sharpe, currently managing director.
Mr Sharpe (41) takes up his new position on February 1 2001. He joined JJB in 1983, becoming purchasing director in 1987. He was appointed managing director in 1990.
David Whelan will remain as chairman and will continue to be closely involved in the strategy and overall direction of the group as opposed to day-to-day executive matters.
Mr Whelan said: "Duncan has played an integral part in the success of JJB to date, and I have no doubt that in his new position, he will continue to take the group from strength to strength.
