Britain’s largest sports chain JJB Sports on Tuesday announced the promotion of operations director Tom Knight to the role of chief executive.

Mr Knight, who joined JJB at the start of October from rival Blacks Leisure, takes up his new position following the sudden death of Duncan Sharpe last month who was found hanged.

Commenting on the new appointment, chairman David Whelan said: "JJB has great opportunities in the years ahead and Tom is the right person to execute the strategy and deliver the potential of the business."
