UK department store retailer John Lewis has promoted company executive Loraine Woodhouse to the role of acting group finance director.

Already heading up the group finance team, Woodhouse will take up the role from 1 December. The position was previously held by Helen Weir who announced her resignation on 17 November.

Weir will step down from the board on 1 December and commence gardening leave on 30 January. In the meantime, she will conclude and handover various projects related to her role, during the transition period.

John Lewis chairman Sir Charlie Mayfield, said: "I would like to thank Helen for the valuable contribution she has made during her time in the partnership.

"I am delighted that Loraine has agreed to join the board on an interim basis. Loraine has been leading our group finance team and is perfectly placed to lead a seamless transition."

Woodhouse joined John Lewis in August last year after leaving her previous role as finance director of fashion retailer Hobbs.
