Clothing conglomerate Jones Apparel Group Inc has named Mary Ann Curran as CEO of its Canadian division.

Curran, who most recently served as vice-president and CFO of Jones Apparel Group Canada Inc, replaces the retiring Richard Shaw in the role.

According to Jones Apparel CEO Peter Boneparth, Curran's "strong" leadership skills made her an ideal candidate for the position.

"She has been an integral component of our Canadian business and her appointment is a natural progression as we look to grow our Canadian market presence," he said.

"This is an exciting time for Jones Apparel in Canada given the recent brand additions of Kasper, Anne Klein and Albert Nipon to our portfolio.

"The Canadian market has tremendous potential for us to pursue with our brand marketing and operational strengths."

Curran has been employed by Jones apparel for the past six years.
