Leading designer and marketer of branded clothing and footwear, Jones Apparel Group, announced on Monday that its president and chief operating officer, Jackwyn Nemerov, had resigned.

The firm, whose brands include Jones New York and Polo jeans, named Peter Boneparth as her replacement and said he will also become chief executive officer from May 22, the date of the company's shareholders meeting.

In a statement, the company did not give the reason for Nemerov's departure but added that Wesley Card will remain as chief financial officer and also replace Nemerov as chief operating officer.

"Peter exhibits strategic vision and total commitment, and is a proven leader who will be a powerful driver for the future direction and growth of the company," said Sidney Kimmel, founder of Jones and its chairman and CEO.

"He has a demonstrated track record in generating excellent growth and profitability in the women's apparel business. I believe that our senior management team will provide the leadership and vision required to take Jones Apparel Group to a new level of growth, diversification and profitability."

He added: "I would like to express our sincere gratitude to Jacki Nemerov for many years of committed service and contribution to Jones Apparel. We wish her the best in the future."
