Apparel marketer Kellwood Co has named Robert Skinner its new president and chief operating officer.

Skinner, the St Louis-based company's corporate vice-president since March 2002, took up the role on December 1.

Prior to joining the company, he served as president of Oxford Shirt Group for 13 years, and corporate vice-president of Oxford Industries for two of those years.

He holds a reputation in the apparel industry for his ability to identify new trends and business opportunities.

"I am quite pleased to be passing on the Kellwood presidency to Bob," CEO Hal Upbin said.

"He has done an outstanding job over the past three years at Kellwood.

"His efforts have strengthened and rebuilt our men's and intimate apparel businesses, and introduced us to the childrenswear area through our Gerber Childrenswear acquisition."

In his new position, Skinner will be responsible for all domestic business units.
