Apparel and footwear giant Kenneth Cole Productions Inc has agreed a deal that will see technology developed for astronauts in outer space incorporated into its new jackets.

The hi-tech leather and cloth jackets are lined with Frisby Technologies Inc's patented Comfortemp temperature balancing materials and also have their own thermometer sewn onto the inner lining.

The fabrics contain Frisby's Thermasorb thermal additive - a powder-like substance that absorbs, stores and releases heat as required to maintain a balanced temperature.

Commenting on the deal, Kenneth Cole, chairman and chief creative director of Kenneth Cole Productions Inc, said: "Comfortemp technology may have been developed for the space station, but we feel that our customers would find it more useful down here on Earth."

He added: "We are optimistic that these jackets will create a buzz and help increase retail excitement this fall."
