The cotton knitwear industry has expressed apprehension over a surge of knitwear imports, which it fears would destabilise the domestic industry. The knitwear sector has called upon the Prime Minister to put safeguards in place the to protect the local industry. "With bound tariff brought down to 35 per cent, imports are likely to surge, destabilising the domestic industry," the Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) has pointed out in its communication addressed to the Prime Minister.
