Discount department store retailer Kohl's Corporation has named Kevin Mansell as chairman of the board, taking up the position when Larry Montgomery retires on 1 September.

Mansell, a 27-year veteran of the company, will also continue to serve as president and chief executive officer.

Meanwhile Montgomery, who has been at Kohl's for 21 years, will continue to serve on the board of directors until 30 January 2010. He has also agreed to provide additional transition assistance following retirement.
"Kevin is a proven executive as he assumes the role of chairman," Mr Montgomery said.

"His strategic vision and continued demonstrated ability to successfully lead, especially in today's increasingly challenging and competitive marketplace, positions Kohl's for long term success."
